The United Arab Emirates (UAE) General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has finally responded to the Nigerian government regarding to the reason it offered for the suspension of flights to Dubai in the past four months. The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika had during a briefing by the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 described the protocol introduced by the UAE as discriminatory, saying it was targeted at only Nigerians. According to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), 2,544 Driver’s licences, issued since last year, are ready for collection by various owners. This was disclosed by the Sector Commander, Mr Ocheja Ameh to newsmen in Calabar during the “Operation Show Your License” exercise, which began on Monday across the State. “As at today, we have 2,544 driver’s license uncollected in the state. “I advise those who do not have, and are currently driving, to visit the nearest national driver’s license center to process a valid driver’s license. “For those that have been captured, they are advised to visit the driver’s license centres and collect theirs,” he said.

A magistrate court in the Adamawa State capital, Yola, has sentenced a man ti nine years in prison for deserting his impregnated girlfriend and attempting to desert justice when it was pronounced on him. He is Zakaria Mallam who was brought before the court by his girlfriend, Maryam Usman, for deserting her after he got her pregnant, and was found guilty and sentenced to two years with an option of fine, but his immediate response was to break into a run out of the court in an attempt to escape. He was caught and brought back to the court as the court recalled his case file and sentenced him seven years in correctional confinement with no option of fine.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalije, has revealed that No fewer than 17 kidnapped students of Bethel Baptist High School, Kaduna have returned. According reports gunmen had attacked the Baptist school, located at Damishi town of Chikun Local Government Area in Kaduna State, and took away many students. Rhe Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, Kaduna Chapter, Rev. John Hayab, told NAN that as of Friday, there were 180 boarding students in the school. In which a teacher at the school, Emmanuel Paul, told AFP that the bandits took away 165 students. NAN quoted Police PRO Jalije as saying “17 of the students have been rescued.”

Babies have been kidnapped by suspected bandits from the residential quarters of the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Centre in Zaria, Kaduna State. The stormed the location in large numbers engaged officers from a nearby police station in a gun battle. A member of the facility who prefers to remain anonymous said; “Those kidnapped were our staff living at the staff quarters, some were abducted alongside their children. So, about ten people were taken away so far,” he said.

The 65-year-old was Minister of Education from 2014 to 2015. He was a two-term Governor serving from 2003-2011 and was elected Senator in 2019. He spoke about his political future shortly after he inaugurated the Shura Consultative Assembly whose mission, he said, is to facilitate “Just and fair Leadership” at any level of government.

A fully loaded gas tanker lost control and rammed into Bode Market at Molete Area of Ibadan, the Oyo State, which has led to the loss of lives of several residents who where present as the time it occured. The number of casualties have not yet been ascertained as of time of filing this report it was gathered that no fewer than five dead bodies have been counted while many shops have been destroyed by inferno.

Prince Charles has appointed a Nigerian lady Eva Omaghomi to serve as the director of community engagement, a newly created role aimed at improving diversity in royal households. According to reports the position became necessary after the senior Royals decided to improve efforts to champion the rights of minorities. She is Prince Charles’ most senior black aid and with this position, she’ll help in boosting relations between the royal households and minority groups. The job also requires her to “help take forward Their Royal Highnesses’ work with minority groups in the UK, Commonwealth and globally, building on a legacy stretching back to the 1970s”.

The Plateau Sector Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) jas today begun a special patrol tagged “Operation Show Your Driver’s Licence”, in an effort to improve road safety. This was revealed by the Sector Commander, Mr Alphonsus Godwin in a statement signed by the command’s Public Education Officer, Mr Andrew Bala. ‘This to inform the general motoring public and motorists plying roads in Jos and its environs that the command will be carrying out a special patrol tagged: ‘Operation Show Your Driver’s Licence’.
