Barrister Victor Chinemerem Muruako, was on Thursday confirmed as chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) by Senate.
The FRC which was established by the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007 had remained without a properly constituted board for 14 years contrary to the Act.
He was initially appointed to serve as acting Chairman of FRC in 2014 and since then, government had failed to fully constitute the board.
The FRA provides that the board should comprise seven members including the chairman.
According to the FRA, the FRC is mandated to among others “compel any person or government institution to disclose information relating to public revenues and expenditure; and cause an investigation into whether any person has violated any provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act.”
