EFCC urges court to inspect money seized from ex-NNPC GMD in Kano

Federal High Court, Abuja, has been urged by the The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Thursday, to go to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to inspect the money seized from the former Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Andrew Yakubu.

Counsel to the EFCC, Mohammed Abubakar, while moving a motion filed on Nov. 17, 2020, before Justice Ahmed Mohammed, also noted that the court should conduct proceedings in the premises of the bank during the inspection of the money.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the anti-corruption agency, acting on a tip-off, had, on Feb. 3, 2017, raided the house of Yakubu in Kaduna State and found 9, 772, 800 dollars (9.7 million dollars) and 74, 000 pounds in a safe.
