Senate Frowns As Justice Ministry Proposes N2bn For Prosecution Of Boko Haram, Others

Minister of Justice raised some alert in the upper chamber of the National Assembly on Monday over the proposed sum of N2 billion for the trial and prosecution of Boko Haram and others.
The lawmakers noticed that the money was budgeted under overhead cost and will be used for payment of the ministry’s legal services.
Second guessing this development, the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters chaired by Senator Michael Opeyemi, noted that the N2 billion is proposed for civil litigation, prison decongestion, trial and prosecution of Boko Haram, administration of criminal justice system and payment for international legal obligations.
